Come experience «Mello» with the Swedish Choir

A message from Matthew Lane (Artistic Director)

Come listen to us sing some of our favourites from Melodifestival, learn a little about its history, and sing along to one like a true Sweden (with harmony!).

Melodiefestivalen is a cultural institution in Sweden. It’s a national contest to see who can produce the best song and accompanying act (including costumes, dancing, lights, and whatever else you can think of), with the winner competing in EuroVision.

Historically renown for “Schlager” - imagine dramatic pop hits from the 80s with catchy tunes and sentimental lyrics - since 1959, the festival has had an enormous influence on pop music, propelling careers for the likes of ABBA and Tommy Körberg. The festival finale is viewed by about half of Sweden (less Canadians watched the gold-medal Olympic Hockey game in 2020!).

The Swedish Choir of Montreal performs varied Swedish and Scandinavian-rooted repertoire for women's choir. The choir rehearses weekly and performs several times per year in the Swedish and Scandinavian community and in conjunction with the Swedish Club of Montreal.

In collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden in Ottawa.
